About to finish my second year here at Oregon, I can easily reflect on the amazing student environment our campus has. What I’m proud of the most is how many students combine their academic endeavors with environmental and political activism. A perfect example of student activism is the ASUO. With a wide range of backgrounds and opinions, it portrays the perfect image of the University of Oregon: diverse, open-minded, and open for change. I have looked into the candidates running this spring for the ASUO and have been amazed by the dedication of the “Campaign for Change” team. The amount of experience Sara, Athan, Chess, and the other candidates have shown that they will effectively implement their goals for the ASUO.
Fixing the financial problems within the PFC and updating the EMU are big ambitions, but I think this is the team that can do it. Before making the decision to back the “Campaign for Change,” I talked with other students and the only concern we faced was the idea of a slate. In previous years, slates were viewed as ploys that tried to get unqualified friends into office. Sara and Athan, however, had an open invite to anyone interested in joining. This goes to show that Sara and Athan want to work with the student body, not just their friends. It’s time to see the ASUO working like it should, so please join me in supporting the growth of student life by voting for the “Campaign for Change.”
