Men’s lacrosse
The Oregon club men’s lacrosse team (13-2, 4-0 Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League) defeated Chapman University 18-10 on Friday and followed it up with a win against No. 13 Utah (5-5) 15-7 on Saturday. Both matches were in Portland.
Senior Julian Coffman scored six goals and added two assists to lead all scorers against Utah.
The Ducks next travel to play two conference opponents this weekend. On Saturday at 1 p.m., Oregon will battle Gonzaga University (6-3) in Spokane, Wash. The Ducks will then move to Moscow, Idaho, to take on the Vandals Sunday at noon. Women’s lacrosse
The club women’s lacrosse team went 2-3 last weekend in the Western States Women’s Lacrosse Tournament hosted by Stanford University. Oregon lost to the UCLA Alumni team in overtime 7-6 and to the Breakaways 10-2, but bounced back to defeat the Cal Poly Alumni squad 10-2 and California-San Diego 7-3. The Ducks then fell to Cal Poly Alumni 4-3. Eight college teams competed in the tournament. Oregon next travels to Western Washington University this weekend.
Baseball
Oregon’s club baseball team (13-4) defeated California 11-1, but lost 6-5 in the tail end of its non-league double header on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.
Coordinator Jonathan Jwayad said senior right hand pitcher Jay Tlougan had a great start and freshman pitcher Kyle Knapp played well in the Ducks’ first game.
“Pitching and defense are what we do well,” Jwayad said. “When we play at that level, I believe we can beat anybody in the country.”
Triathlon
The Oregon club triathlon squad competed in the Beaver Freezer Sprint Triathlon hosted by Oregon State on Saturday, coordinator K.C. Dauble said. The triathlon consisted of a 500-yard swim, a 12-mile bike competition and a five-mile run. Fifteen Oregon athletes were among the 350 who participated.
David Embree finished first in the men’s 25-29 category and 6th overall with a time of 59:52. In the women’s 20-24 category, Dauble finished second and placed 3rd overall, clocking in a time of 1:08:38.
Next on tap for the team is a grueling Olympic Distance Wildflower Triathlon in Lake San Antonio, Calif., on May 6. Dauble said there will be more than 10,000 triathletes racing that weekend at host school Cal Poly.
Crew
Over the weekend at the Governor’s Cup Regatta in Salem, the Ducks’ club crew squad competed in men’s JV 8 action against schools that included Humboldt State University, Lewis & Clark College, Seattle Pacific University and Willamette University in its first contest of the season, co-coordinator Taylor Gooch said. With eight rowers in their boat and a coxswain steering, the Ducks earned a second place finish with a time of six minutes, 16 seconds.
This Saturday, Oregon hosts a regatta at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore. Men’s varsity 4, men’s novice 4, women’s novice 4 and a men’s JV 8 squads will compete, Gooch said.
