Yasir Rosemond was promoted to assistant coach for the Oregon men’s basketball team, coach Ernie Kent announced Monday.
Rosemond, 30, was Oregon’s director of operations the previous two years and replaces former assistant coach Scott Duncan, who was hired for a similar position by UCLA.
Rosemond is a former Duck who played for Kent from 1997-99 and averaged 4.3 points in 58 games. He coached for two seasons at Redlands Community College in Oklahoma before returning to Oregon.
“Yasir’s understanding and knowledge of our system is going to allow him to be an outstanding assistant coach,” Kent said in a prepared statement. “As a former player, this is a special place to Yasir, and he has a tremendous amount of love and passion for the University of Oregon. It’s because of that passion that he will be able to help us continue to recruit high-quality student athletes.”
Rosemond played professional basketball in Brazil for two years after his collegiate career and came back to Oregon in 2003 to finish his degree requirements before becoming a coach.
