If you are interested in submitting a proposal for how to spend more than $700,000 in over-realized funds, you have just one more week to complete and submit your proposal.
Although the Student Senate began the process with $800,000 in over-realized funds, that number is now down to $728,000 after the Student Senate allocated a chunk of money from the fund to help the Student Recreation Center fill a state-mandated equipment reserve fund.
The appropriations committee in charge of choosing a proposal will stop accepting ideas Feb. 18.
“We really put a lot of time into setting out the process,” said Senate President Sara Hamilton. “We just have to see from this deadline – that’s when the work starts.”
Sen. Jacob Daniels, who heads the appropriations committee, said they have received 12 or 13 proposals so far, but he has heard that some department heads have their own ideas floating around. He also said the Financial Accounting Theory II class that has been working on proposals will be turning in their ideas soon.
“It’s going to be kind of painstaking to go through tons of proposals, but it’ll be exciting to see what the ideas are,” Daniels said. “It’s always exciting to see new ideas and things like that.”
Hamilton said she anticipates students will have strong opinions.’
“Hopefully we can make some good out of this,” she said.
