Oregon head coach Vin Lananna, who led the Oregon men to their first national championship since 1977, was named the Bill Dellinger Men’s Division I Cross Country Coach of the Year Nov. 20. Lananna won the award for the fifth time in his career, following the 1986 honor he won at Dartmouth and the 1996, 1997 and 2002 awards at Stanford.
In his third year at Oregon, Lananna has led the Duck men from sixth place in 2005 to champions in 2006 and 2007 in both the Pacific-10 Conference and West Regional. The team did not make the NCAA Championships in 2005 and placed fifth in 2006, before winning the title this year.
Stanford coach Peter Tegen won the award named after him, the Peter Tegen Women’s Division I Cross Country Coach of the Year award, after his Cardinal beat Lananna’s women’s team for the NCAA championship.
