Jonathan Stewart has been nominated for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week award for the eighth week of the college football season.
Stewart rushed for 251 yards and two touchdowns in Oregon’s 55-34 victory at Washington Saturday, and was nominated by ESPN along with Alabama wide receiver D.J. Hall (13 receptions, 185 yards, two touchdowns against Tennessee), Tulane running back Daniel Forte (38 carries, 342 yards, five touchdowns against SMU) and UCLA cornerback Al Verner (two tackles for a loss, two interceptions, one returned 76 yards for a touchdown against California).
Fans can determine the winner by sending the text message VOTE to 87654 from a wireless phone. Votes may be submitted until 8:59 p.m. PST on Wednesday. The winner will be announced Oct. 25 at halftime during Thursday’s ESPN College Football Primetime Presented by Applebee’s college football game between Boston College and Virginia Tech. There is no limit on fan voting, and each vote counts as one entry into a sweepstakes to win a trip to the 2008 BCS National Championship game in New Orleans.
Stewart also won Oregon’s third offensive Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week award. Quarterback Dennis Dixon has won the award two times this season.
It was Stewart’s second honor from the Pac-10. He was named special teams Player of the Week following the Civil War game his freshman year in 2005.
