In recognition of the 34th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, Susan F. Wood will speak at the University on Sunday about possible threats to a woman’s abortion rights. It will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday in 100 Willamette.
According to a press release, Wood’s talk will focus on the Food and Drug Administration’s “continued, short-sighted delay” on making emergency contraceptives like the morning-after pill available over the counter. Her view that the FDA is unwilling to make these contraceptive measures unavailable helped her to decide to resign from her post with the government agency in 2005.
Her appearance is sponsored by the University’s Cultural Forum as well as the Women’s Center, Students for Choice, Law Students for Choice, the Women’s Law Forum and the local activist group Women’s Action for New Directions.
