In the final nine days of July, two separate incidents of public indecency occurred within the University vicinity. Although police have made no arrests in the cases, officials say that residents should be careful, but not worried.
According to the Eugene Police Department public log book, the first incident occurred at 3:04 a.m. on July 23 at the Campus Twins apartment complex located at 735 E. 14th Ave.
The male suspect is described to be in his late 20s, 5’8″, with a thin build and dark hair in a pony tail, EPD Public Information Assistant Jan Power said.
According to a news release, the second occurrence happened in the early morning hours of July 31 when a female adult — delivering newspapers at 4:17 a.m. near the Phoenix Inn Motel at Franklin Boulevard and Alder Street — encountered a male adult with his pants down to his ankles. The suspect asked her how she was doing and the male was observed fondling himself. He is described as 30 years of age, 5’7″, medium build with long shaggy blonde hair.
“If there is no threat to the community and we’re not looking for additional victims, frequently there is no further action taken other than filing a basic report,” Power said. “Generally, most victims don’t want to be contacted unless the suspect has been apprehended and arrested.”
However, if a pattern is present, the case is referred to the campus EPD team, Power said.
Her advice to victims of public indecency: Call the non-emergency EPD line at 682-5111, get a good description, and if possible, keep the assailant under observation until officers arrive on the scene. “Generally they’re not a dangerous individual,” Power said.
Anyone with further information can contact the EPD.
