Worked at the Emerald all four years there (1958-62), starting as a proofreader, finishing as editor. Most of the time I was a reporter. I loved every minute of it. The people who worked there were terrific!
I have just retired after 27 years on the journalism faculty at Penn State University. I am working on a biograaphy of Joseph Pulitzer III (1913-1993) editor-publisher of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and chairman of the Pulitzer Publishing Company from 1955 until his death. He succeeded his father, who held the same positions from 1912 to 1955. I wrote his biography, published in 1991 (Joseph Pulitzer II and the Post Dispatch: A Newspaperman’s Life). I wish I could attend the 100th anniversary celebration, but it is not possible. I hope there will be another reunion opportunity.
