The Pacific-10 Conference announced its annual all-conference awards Monday, and all but one team was represented: Oregon.
Arizona State sophomore James Harden won player of the year honors, while Washington guard Isaiah Thomas was named freshman of the year. USC’s Taj Gibson won defensive player of the year, and Washington’s Justin Dentmon won most-improved player and Husky coach Lorenzo Romar won coach of the year honors.
Oregon did not place a player on the first, second or honorable mention all-conference teams, nor the all-defensive or all-freshman teams.
The last time Oregon didn’t have a player recognized was 2005-06.
Oregon State’s Roeland Schaftenaar made the honorable mention team for receiving at least three votes from the Pac-10 coaches, who voted on the all-conference lists. OSU’s Seth Tarver made the honorable mention defensive team.
Harden averaged 20.8 points this year to lead the league, and becomes the third ASU player and third sophomore to win the award. Cal’s Jason Kidd and Arizona’s Mike Bibby were sophomore winners in 1994 and 1998, respectively.
