It is time someone says it.
I want the average student to be voting in the ASUO, because as someone who doesn’t know what half of my $12 million ASUO budget is wasted on, the average student will vote with my interest in mind.
That’s why I am voting Reality Check. It is clear students all over campus are as well. With the Emerald endorsement, Commentator endorsement and much more, their tangible issues are overwhelming. It’s time we get past buzzwords like community and sustainability: issues any executive will obviously work on.
Friends, we need to take our incidental fee back. How many times do you wake up and see the Emerald and go, “WTF.” That is because small groups of ASUO insiders direct money where they want it to go. And that is to special interests.
But not Alex, Alden and Reality Check; they care about football tickets, parking, and building an EMU that has businesses in it so we don’t lose money, and let’s not forget keeping our incidental fee low. Since we don’t know what they spend that $12 million on anyway, I think not increasing it sounds good to me.
Reality Check cares about Bill the Beer Pong Player, Fred the Frat Guy, and Sean the Social Science Major, the everyday student who, quite frankly, just wants to go to college and not leave with empty wallets. They want to support student groups and find ways to creatively grow. This year, Alex helped increase football tickets while decreasing the budget. They want to see if we can get our LTD contract at a price-tag less than $1.3 million, and they want the EMU to stop losing money.
Vote today by 5 p.m. so we can get our campus back on track. As cliché as it is at this point, I think they are on to something. The ASUO needs a Reality Check: Let’s give it to them.
Tired of an insular ASUO? Reality Check is best choice for everyday students
