University student David Chai, 25, was severely injured in a head-on car crash on Highway 101 just north of Florence on Saturday afternoon.
Chai was a passenger in a 2001 Toyota Camry, driven by Han Kim, also 25, of Eugene. Other passengers in the vehicle included University students Esther Kang, 21; Min Hye Park, 21; and Bin Seok, 19, according to an Oregon State Police news release.
The Camry was struck by a 2003 Audi sedan driven by Eugene resident Brandon Schooley, 19, who had three passengers in his car.
All nine people in the two cars were injured, some with only minor injuries and others with more severe injuries, according to the news release.
As of press time, Chai was reported to be in critical condition, and Kang was listed in serious
condition, both at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
Park suffered minor injuries, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis and was released later on Saturday.
Kim was transported to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence, treated for minor injuries and has also been released.
Chai has not been admitted to the University, but he is currently studying part-time through the Community Education Program.
