Your grandma’s Tupperware parties will never be the same again. These days, women are throwing out conservative product parties in favor of something a little more risque — passion parties.
A passion party, like a Tupperware party, brings in a consultant who sells their product to women. But instead of selling storage products, passion party consultants sell sex products.
The company Passion Parties specializes in a wide range of sex products geared toward women (and a few toward men).
But these products aren’t your average K.Y. products or strangely kinky sex toys.
Passion Parties prides itself on well-made, classy products for every woman, with any and every sexual interest and experience, at any age.
“We are a tasteful company, so it’s easier for women to buy from us,” Lucy Skertchly, Passion Parties executive manager and independent consultant, said.
Skertchly, who has been working for Passion Parties for more than three and a half years, said she loves what she does and hopes she can do it for the rest of her life.
“How many people say they can meet women at a party, laugh with them, joke with them, make money and leave the party with new friends?” she said.
And for the women at the party, Skertchly said the experience is just as fun and rewarding for them.
“I love going into a room and helping them with things they don’t understand … trouble with married life, love life,” she said.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, a passion party is the perfect way to get in the spirit of love (and let’s be honest, mostly sex).
It’s a big part of the consultant’s job to make the party fun and entertaining. But for some women, the idea of passing around dildos might be more uncomfortable than amusing.
So for those interested in hosting a passion party, here are some tips for making it the best party possible:
Invite friends, and friends of friends.
The best way to get over your fear of dildos and assorted vibrators is to have plenty of other girls there with that same fear. Skertchly said that in her experience, having more guests makes women a lot more comfortable. “If you’re gonna throw a party, why not make it a party?” she said.
Have fun with your snacks.
Nothing makes your party guests crack up more than an enlarged penis cake, giant penis cookies or maybe even penis pasta for an entrée. Decorate desserts with frosting as (and where) needed. You can find a cake pan on amazon.com, or just get creative with what you have.
Expect the unexpected.
Don’t be surprised when your consultant shows you a We-Vibe and it’s not exactly your favorite video game. However, you might just enjoy it more than any game.
Bunnies might not ever be the same for you either, but that’s OK — as weird and slightly scary-looking as these products may be, the consultant is there to demystify sex toys and products as best she can. And even if you’re not ready to buy something like that, at least you, and everyone else, won’t be as scared of them.
Don’t be afraid to “test” the product.
OK, this probably sounds gross. But if you’re going to spend your hard-earned money on something, don’t you want to make sure it works? As a heads up, consultants often let you test out products like chapstick, lotion and lube, but not toys. Don’t be embarrassed to try it out. And as a host, if you try, others will follow.
Confide in your consultant.
Skertchly said women should, and often do, confide in her about their sex problems and quandaries.
She recalls a middle-aged woman who had confided in her about the conservative nature of her sex life with her husband of 30 years. She had never, let’s just say “performed” on her husband, but had planned to.
“One day, she calls me, in tears … she bought a sex gel with a numbing agent, and 45 minutes later, nothing was happening,” Skertchly said.
So Skertchly informed the woman the right product to get and sent it to her for free to try out.
“She calls back … and exclaims it only took one minute and thirty-two seconds!” Skertchly laughs. “I’m so happy she was happy. That to me was the best horror story/funny story/happy ending.”
Have fun.
Yes, stating the obvious. But how often do you get to sit around with a ton of girlfriends talking about sex, learning about sex and shopping for sex toys (without it being completely weird, or a part of some guy’s fantasy)? So just have fun with it, and splurge a little on gifts for your valentine, or for yourself.
