The holidays are said to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for many broke college students the holidays are the most stressful. It’s time for the dreaded “Christmahannukwanzaakuh” gift shopping. If you’re looking for a gift to give your friends in college and you’re shopping on a budget here’s a possible gift idea that’s thoughtful and will be used: personalized frosted shot glasses.
What You’ll Need:
- Armour Etch: Glass Etching Cream (found at any craft store)
- Stickers (Scrapbook stickers work best)
- Small flat paintbrush (used to spread Armour Etch on shotglass)
- Rubber gloves (VERY IMPORTANT!)
- Paper plates (optional)
- Shot glasses
Instructions
- Wash and dry your shot glasses.
- Decorate with stickers! (Fun ideas: Initials, hearts and stars, embarrassing nicknames, the Oregon “O”)
- Put on the rubber gloves. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. The etching cream will BURN!
- Pour the etching cream onto a plate (this is where the paper plates come in handy. I suggest using a thick stack of them).
- Paint the shot glasses. You want to use a thick coat and cover the glasses thoroughly. Don’t be afraid to use the entire bottle of etching cream and don’t forget about the edges around the stickers. Leave the cream on for 10-15 minutes, the longer the better.
- WITH GLOVES ON, wash all of the cream off using warm water. Make sure to rinse out the sink too so you don’t accidentally etch your sink!
- Peel off the stickers (tough ones might need some soaking!), wash the glasses, and dry!
Feel free to use other glassware following the same steps. Now, gather up your friends, buy a bottle of the cheapest (or most expensive) hard liquor, pass out the shot glasses, and celebrate the winter festivities!
