In its first two matches to open the 2016 season, the Oregon beach volleyball team came up empty. The Ducks dropped matches to Stanford and Boise State on Saturday in Portland.
Oregon lost 3-2 to Stanford in the season-opening match, then 4-1 to Boise State.
Against Stanford, the Ducks fell in the No. 3 matchup, but Roni LaPierre and Marine Hall-Poirier beat the Stanford No. 5 team 22-20, 15-21, 16-14. The Duck pair of Lauren Page and August Raskie took the No. 4 matchup, but Stanford came back to win both the No. 1 and No. 2 matchups.
In the afternoon match, Oregon won just one point against Boise State. That came from the No. 3 Duck combo of Amanda Benson and newcomer Maddy Frank over Stanford’s pair of Sabryn Roberts and Katie Hall, 21-19, 30-28. The Ducks subbed out Liz Brenner from the morning match in the No. 1 spot for sophomore Haley McLaren, who competed in the morning in the No. 6 exhibition spot, against the Broncos.
Up next: The Ducks return to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. versus Portland.
