Oregon’s men’s tennis has taken one step closer to becoming a top program.
The Ducks achieved their first NCAA Championship victory in program history with a 4-1 win over No. 23 Tulsa in Norman, Oklahoma Friday.
The No. 38 Ducks started strong by taking the doubles point for the 21st time this season with victories on courts No. 1 and 2. Oregon’s No. 42 Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno won the match on court No. 1, 6-2, while Daan Maasland and Simon Stevens won on court No. 2, 6-4.
In singles, No. 48 Or Ram-Harel grabbed the lone point for the Golden Hurricanes when he defeated Daan Maasland 6-4, 6-0 on court No. 1.
With the match tied at 1-1, on court No. 6 Oregon’s Ethan Young-Smith defeated Tulsa’s Okkie Kellerman 6-4, 6-3. Then, Oregon’s Cormac Clissold won in straight sets over Dylan McCloskey on court No. 5 to give the Ducks a 3-1 overall lead.
To clinch the victory, Oregon freshman Thomas Laurent beat Tulsa’s Majed Kilani 6-4, 7-5 on court No. 3.
With the 4-1 victory, the Ducks will advance to the round of 32, where they will play No. 1o Oklahoma tomorrow at 11 A.M.
