— Dave Yost was hired to become the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator on Wednesday, according to a release from the Oregon athletic department. Yost spent last season working as a wide receivers coach at Washington State, and was an integral part of a Cougar unit that led the PAC-12 in passing offense.
— Justine Hall, a women’s basketball transfer from Purdue, is currently practicing with the Ducks and will be eligible to join the team next season. The former Colorado Gatorade player of they year sat down with the Emerald before Thursday’s practice to discuss the transition process and what attracted her to the Oregon program.
— After a strong start to PAC-12 play, Oregon guard Tyler Dorsey has seen his NBA Draft stock soar. Dorsey was ranked 26th in Chad Ford’s most recent Big Board on ESPN.com.
— Oregon women’s tennis will kickoff their spring season this weekend when they play at the Long beach Invitational. Emerald reporter Madison Layton previewed the tournament on Thursday. Five Duck players making their Oregon debut will join sophomore standouts Alyssa Tobita and Nia Rose at the dual match tournament.
— The Chip Kelly sweepstakes came to an end Thursday morning when it was announced that the former Oregon coach had been chosen to fill the San Francisco 49er’s head coaching vacancy.
In his Friday column, Austin Meek of the Register Guard encapsulated the feeling of disappointment that many Duck fans felt when they learned that Kelly will not be reunited with his former quarterback, Marcus Mariota, in Tennessee.
— The Oregon Club Skiing team took advantage of the recent abnormally high snow numbers, and hit the slopes of Mount Hoodoo for a rare training session on a mountain.
— With the signing of Yost, Oregon has now addressed all vacancies on their offensive coaching staff. However, they are still searching for a defensive coordinator to replace Don Pellum, who was demoted to linebackers coach earlier this month.
After it was reported by ESPN that San Diego Chargers linebacker coach Mike Nolan had left his position with the team earlier this week, Fansided, an affiliate of Sports Illustrated, pondered whether Nolan could be a candidate to fill the Duck’s defensive coordinator void. Nolan has experience as both a head coach and a defensive coordinator in the NFL — most recently as the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons from 2012-2014 — and he was a three year letterman for the Ducks at safety during his playing days.
