Age: 18
Major: Computer and Information Science

Year: Sophomore
Emerald: If you could kind of summarize your platform in a sentence or just a few words what you would say?
Snider: Greater accountability.
Emerald: And what qualifies you for this position?
Snider: I feel extremely — I have very strong opinions about things that should be done. I’m willing to carry them out and talk to people. I also like to listen to people and figure out what they really want and what they need to meet from people.
Emerald: Why do you want the job?
Snider: Because I think I can make a good change in the current state of student politics.
Emerald: And in light of the ASUO retreat to Sunriver what do you think is the best way to ensure proper accountability from student leaders next year?
Snider: I think that strict enforcement of the existing rules and oversight by a disinterested party probably.
Emerald: And in light of the actions taken with the Oregon Commentator this year, what aspects of a student group would you take into consideration when you’re considering the approval of a mission and goals statement?
Snider: I would take into consideration facts such as whether it fits within the existing regulations, but that’s pretty much it, I don’t think that …
Emerald: And what areas of the budget do you plan to target to bring the PFC spending within its benchmark?
Snider: Plan to target, probably look at how students are spending their money when it’s not on staff. I’d look at that but more on what the other things they’re spending it on.
Emerald: Like just different programs they’re doing or different activities?
Snider: Right yeah the activities and stuff that are going on?
Emerald: Just like where the money’s going and
Snider: Right, it’s really hard to say.
Emerald: So kind of make it less difficult to decipher where everything’s going?
Snider: Uh huh, that would be a big thing that I would like to see.
Emerald: Well, we have a good two minutes. Is there anything you want to add about maybe taking into … areas of the budget you want to target to bring the spending down or anything involving accountability?
Snider: I really think that there needs to be more accountability of student leaders. And one of the things that needs to happen is there needs to be very clear regulations about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable and they need to be enforced instead of just sidestepped or ignored because they would hurt someone or they may not seem like the nice thing to do. And, um, I think that student leaders should especially be held at a higher standard than most students would be held to.
