First-year Oregon volleyball head coach Jim Moore announced the
addition of several new faces for the 2005-06 season Tuesday.
Student athletes Katie Swoboda and Mira Duric signed National Letters of Intent with the Ducks. Erika Bartruff also accepted an athletic scholarship with Oregon.
“This (recruiting) class will help us fill key role positions,” said Moore, who was hired last winter. “We were not only able to fill specific needs, but bring in quality student athletes to the program. I expect each of our signees to give us a huge lift in attaining our program’s goals.”
Swoboda played at Reynolds High School in Troutdale and also with Nike Northwest Juniors squads. The 5-foot-5 libero was named Mt. Hood Conference Player of the Year and received first-team all-state honors in 2004.
Moore quickly showed his desire to recruit internationally with the signing of Duric, a native of Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker was a member of the Serbian Junior National Team.
Bartuff, a 5-foot-11 setter from Beaver Dam, Wis., earned first-team all-state honors in her senior season. Moore recruited her while still coaching at Northern Michigan, but the Wildcats allowed Bartruff to scrap their previous commitment once Moore left, according to the Daily Citizen.
These new additions will join
versitile frontline player Alix Gambos of West Linn, who signed a National Letter of Intent last fall.
