Whether the holiday means dressing up as Gandalf or Marilyn Monroe, Halloween has arrived. Students will have an excuse to have a good time as the Eugene area has something to offer for everyone throughout the weekend.
Those wanting to get a chill down their spine should check out Lone Pine Farms in Junction City. The farm is one of the biggest autumn highlights in the area, with a corn maze to get lost in for hours. The Haunted Nights corn maze features dressed-up employees trying to shake up those with the toughest backbone. The maze is open every night starting at 7 p.m. until Monday. Visitors can also find that perfect pumpkin when they hitch a ride on the Pumpkin Patch Express, a horse drawn hay ride through a pumpkin patch.
Lone Pine Farms is located at 91909 River Road in Junction City, minutes north of Eugene. Hauntings are $10 on Friday and Saturday, and $8 on Sunday. Those interested can call Lone Pine Farms at 541-688-4389.
If the outdoors aren’t your thing, Cinemark Movies 12 at Gateway Mall in Springfield will be showing two horror thrillers for a low price. Cinemark will be hosting “Halloween Midnight Movie Weekend” that will run from Friday through Monday.
“Freddy vs. Jason” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” will start at midnight. Both movies, released in 2003, are rated R. Admission for each is $1.50.
Many clubs and organizations throughout Eugene plan to host gatherings.
Eugene band Reeble Jar will play a Halloween concert at Luna featuring a costume ball starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday. The band, described as a funk and acid jazz band, will be playing tribal rhythms.
Sam Bond’s Garage at 407 Blair Blvd. in Eugene will host two parties, one featuring the Terpsichores Daughters at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday for $7 and another on Monday for $3.
Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts will host its second annual “Come As You Art,” a Halloween costume party, on Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight. Eugene tango quintet Mood Area 52 will play at 8 p.m. and Kafou Internacional will play to a Latin Afro Caribbean beat.
“Haunters,” a documentary on the haunted attraction industry, will show at 8 p.m. in DIVA’s Flamingo Building. Local beer, wine and desserts will be available. The cost for a downtown coupon book, which will get you into the event, is $15 for members and $17 for non-members. DIVA is located at 110 W. Broadway in Eugene.
The WOW Hall will host “Rock ‘n’ Roll Halloween Party” featuring Eugene’s own Rock ‘n’ Roll Soldiers, winners of the 2004 WOW Hall Award for Best Musical Performance, along with guests The Vacation, Blimp and Deleted Scenes. Cash prizes and gift certificates for best costumes will be given out. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The 11th annual Witches Ball will also be held at the WOW Hall with trance band Edgewalking Blind and Eugene’s Onomatopoeia. The event will feature a children’s parade, costume contests and a dance. Admission for the Monday event is on a sliding scale, ranging from $7 to $15 at the door.
Because Halloween is on a Monday this year, those who want to take it easy on a school night should check out a performance by the School of Music and Dance.
The school will host a Halloween concert by the University Symphony, directed by Wayne Bennett. The symphony will be playing pieces that include “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas and “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks,” by Richard Strauss.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. on Oct. 31 in Beall Hall. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students. The School of Music is located at 961 E. 18th Ave.
