Being a columnist, something about having yet another forum to spew my
opinions seems slightly redundant. But, again being a columnist, I am
terribly narcissistic
and will never shy away from a forum.
In my first column last term, I wrote about getting cable, but what I
never
did write about was the lack of Comedy Central in my cable services. I
live
in one of the
older service areas of Eugene where this and other channels were not
available. I felt cheated and
betrayed, but that cable was wrapped tightly around my balls, so there
weren’t any real
options. But I am pleased to announce that AT&T gave me the best
Christmas
present ever by
updating the system and giving me the Comedy Central I so rightly
deserve. Yey.
But even better than returning to my TV was returning to the newsroom.
I love
this place, mostly because I have very little requirement to be here.
As
soon as you have
to do something, you don’t want to, but as is, I spend almost as much
time
in the
newsroom as a real reporter. But that doesn’t mean everything goes
smooth.
Mike wouldn’t let
me use “bitch” in my column this week to describe some of the girls on
“Joe
Millionaire.” I don’t understand why this word is taboo, but in the
same
column I can call a guy “a
lying bastard.” Watch, now I won’t be able to say “bastard” anymore.
Other obscenities were running through my mind when faced with an 8
a.m.
class. I prize sleep over most things, but a Rock History class was too
good to pass up. Still, on Tuesday the professor posed the question I
know
my fellow classmates and I were thinking:
“Can one rock at 8 o’clock?”
My instinctual reaction was, “To hell with that!” But after conversing
with a
classmate, we concluded that if you haven’t slept yet and are still
feeling
the effects of
drugs and/or alcohol, “Rock” can be achieved at 8 a.m. However, after
posing the question
to some people in the office, Kathy enthusiastically endorsed an
unqualified ability to rock
regardless of the hour, citing the popular “Rock Around the Clock”
doctrine. The debate
continues…
