The Oregon Ducks (30-20) were able to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament with an 8-2 win over the Boston University Terriers (53-6-1). Oregon’s offense was electric in the win as almost every batter for the Ducks recorded a hit in the contest.
Oregon got on the board in the second inning after going 1-2-3 in their first chance at the plate. Vallery Wong reached on an error, then capitalized on a double from Alyssa Daniell to open the scoring in the game. The Terriers were able to end the inning without any more damage being done, but the Ducks captured an early 1-0 lead.
Oregon’s Morgan Scott started the game in the circle and shut down Boston’s offense through the first four innings, allowing just two hits and no runs. That excellent pitching allowed the Ducks to add to their lead in the fourth inning on a three-run homer from KK Humphreys to expand the gap to 4-0.
That momentum continued in the fifth frame for Oregon. Emma Kauf led off the inning with a single before Katie Flannery hit a two-run homer to inch closer to a run-rule win. Humphreys and Tehya Bird both singled, then scored on a double from Paige Sinicki to make the score 8-0, putting the Ducks in position to end the game in a run-rule win in the fifth inning.
However, Boston was able to stay alive in the game to get on the board for the first time in the game. The Terriers’ Kate Pryor was walked to open the inning, then scored a few batters later on a sac-fly from Lauren Keleher to extend the game.
Oregon was unable to shut the door completely on offense, but its defense was able to keep Boston from making a run. The Terriers were able to add another run to their total when Lauren Nett’s single brought in Raegan Kelly. However, the Ducks’ Raegan Breedlove finished out the game to secure the win.
Oregon will have a rematch with the Oklahoma Sooners in the Norman Regional Finals at 12:00 p.m. If the Ducks can pull off the upset, they’ll have to face the Sooners a second time for a winner-take-all meeting.
