For Casey Martin, the Bandon Dunes Championship was a tournament for his team to continue to learn and get better. Ultimately, it is the number one priority he holds for his group of golfers. And after winning the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in its preceding tournament, the event looked to be a place to carry over the momentum built while the Ducks were in California.
However, the Oregon men’s golf team experienced a bit of a setback in the harsh conditions at Bandon, Ore., at the Championship. In the three-day tournament, Oregon finished in a tie for ninth, posting a score that read 289-297-304—890.
Each day, the performances from the individuals participating consistently dropped and the Ducks finished with a 38-over-par score, their highest finish over par since last year at the Pac-12 Championships. They finished 27 strokes behind the tournament winner, Missouri.
Sulman Raza, after finding his stroke at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and guiding the Ducks to a first place finish, fell into a rut at the Pacific Dunes course. His three day scorecard of 75-78-83—236 put him 23-over par at the event’s conclusion. @@name checked@@
“We just simply played bad all week,” Martin told GoDucks.com. “We are all disappointed but we will get our Ducks in a row and play better for our event next week.”
Thomas Lim led the Ducks and tied for seventh individually with a 4-over par score of 68-76-73—217.
Ryann Ree, Brandon McIver, and Zach Foushee would all struggle throughout the tournament’s entirety and the score of the team mainly was reflected by their individual outputs. Ree (78-74-75—227), like Raza, suffered a setback after he placed third individually at the Intercollegiate in California. @@three names checked@@
Next up for the Ducks will be the 25th Annual Duck Invitational at Emerald Valley Golf Course that will begin on March 24.
