– Oregon football’s Marcus Mariota, the front runner for the Heisman trophy award, was cited for a speeding ticket at 12:46 a.m. on Nov. 12 in Veneta, Oregon. Mariota was clocked going 80 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 126-westbound and was clocked by state trooper Ryan Hockema. According to the Register Guard, Mariota was “polite and respectful” when being issued the ticket and gave Hockema no trouble at all. Marietta is due to appear in court on December 11 and is currently subject to a $260 fine.
– The Jane Sanders softball stadium is officially set to begin construction concluding the upcoming 2015 softball season. According to a press release issued by Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, the athletic department plans to tear down Howe Field at the end of the season and begin construction immediately for the new, state-of-the-art, softball stadium in the same place Howe Field currently resides. The new stadium is being made possible from a generous donation ($10 million) by former Oregon football player Robert Sanders.
– The Oregon men’s basketball team received good news yesterday when four-star power forward Trevor Manuel submitted his National Letter of Intent. Manuel stands at 6-foot-9 and weighs 215 lbs and is expected to see early action with the Ducks and their currently depleted roster. 247 Sports currently rates Manuel a 93, making him the 90th overall prospect in the country, while ESPN gives the power forward of an overall grade of 80.
– Liz Brenner and the Oregon volleyball team conclude the home matches of the 2014 season with games against the No. 17 UCLA on Friday evening at 8 p.m. and No. 25 USC at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning. Both matches will be at Matthew Knight Arena and can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks. The matches will be particularly important for the No. 14 ranked Ducks as a sweep over the LA schools and a win over Oregon State next Friday could potentially thrust the Ducks into a host-team role when the NCAA Tournament begins December 5.
