More legal trouble for the Oregon men’s basketball team.
On September 12 seniors Jalil Abdul-Bassit and Elgin Cook ran into trouble with the law after they were caught shoplifting from the Market of Choice on Franklin Boulevard in the late afternoon, according to the Register-Guard.
Rather than being taken into custody both were cited with theft in the third degree, meaning the total of the stolen merchandise was less than $100.
Cook and Abdul-Bassit are expected to feature heavily in the rotation this year. They transferred to Oregon last season, and currently represent two of the three returning scholarship players from last year. Cook arrived via Northwest Florida State and averaged 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds a game last year while Abdul-Bassit transferred from North Idaho College.
This news comes on the heels of the sexual assault investigation that surrounded the program last spring.
