Oregon women’s soccer (0-11-2) dropped both games of its road trip, capitalized by a 4-0 loss to No. 5 UCLA (12-1-0) on Sunday.
The Ducks’ struggles continued on the road in Los Angeles. They came into the match trying to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to No. 15 USC (8-2-0) on Thursday. Oregon ended up going scoreless and conceding seven goals on the road trip after the match against the Bruins.
The Ducks kept UCLA off the scoresheet for the first 15 minutes of the game. That quickly changed once they conceded the first corner. Reilyn Turner scored her first goal off a delivery from Ally Cook.
Corners have been an achilles heel for Oregon. The team has conceded 97 this season, which is more than twice the amount of corners its opponents have.. Many of the goals the Ducks have allowed have come off of set pieces. It opened the floodgates for Turner and the Bruins on Sunday.
The second UCLA goal came in the 24th minute after Emma Egizii sent a rocket into the top center of goal. Oregon goalkeeper Maddy Goldberg got a touch on it, but couldn’t secure the ball as it fell past the goal line. Goldberg was later subbed out at halftime for freshman Leah Parsons after allowing two first half goals.
It only took Turner and the Bruins a minute into the second half to find the back of the net again. Turner then completed the hat trick in the 62nd minute as she slid the ball into the bottom right of goal.
UCLA dominated the Ducks in all categories. Oregon only got one shot attempt in comparison to the Bruins’ 33. The Ducks never were able to get into rhythm in the match.
Oregon now heads back home looking to regroup. It will be in search of earning its first point in Pac-12 play as it faces Arizona State (8-2-4) on Friday at 7 p.m.
