Oregon lacrosse continued its spring break road trip with a 14-7 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win against Fresno State Monday afternoon.
The Ducks entered the match looking to bounce back from a loss against Monmouth on Saturday, in a game in which offensive production was few and far between.
Oregon (7-2, 2-1 MPSF) was able to flip the script against the Bulldogs, pouring it on with 38 total shots. Five different athletes contributed multi-goal efforts for the Ducks, with senior Olivia Pyne leading the way by collecting a hat trick.
Fresno State (2-8, 0-4 MPSF) started the game sluggish, allowing the Ducks to jump out to an early lead. Oregon led 6-1 with 13:28 left on the clock in the first. It was able to use superior ball movement and patience in the attack to break down the Bulldog defense.
It was once again freshman Cambi Cukar who looked the most dangerous finding open teammates. She ended with a game-high four assists while adding a goal of her own.
One key to stopping the Bulldogs was finding a way to contain midfielder Caro Dineen-Carlson, who has been the biggest goal-scoring threat for her team this season. The defense was able to stifle her normally impressive contributions. Dineen-Carlson didn’t have a single shot on goal.
Headed into halftime the Ducks had a comfortable 7-2 lead.
Oregon’s freshman goalie Janelle Parker wasn’t asked to do much. She played 40 minutes, finishing with one save and only four goals allowed. Her backup, junior Jenna Morris, was also able to record some playing time. Morris ended with two saves and only let in three goals.
The Ducks will head over to the east coast for their next two games, taking on LIU Brooklyn on the 26th and Stony Brook on the 28th. Thursday’s game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
