The Oregon softball team stretched its winning streak to 12 games with two victories over visiting Utah Valley. Led by strong pitching and timely hitting, the Ducks outplayed Utah Valley in every facet of the game.
GAME 1: Oregon 9 – Utah Valley 1 (6 innings): Transfers Hailey Decker and Geri Ann Glasco provided the big punch in Oregon’s first victory.
Glasco got the job done in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate while Decker provided four RBI’s for the Ducks.
Glasco finished the game, surrendering one run and striking out 10 in six innings pitched. She hit a solo homerun in the second inning that tied the game at 1 after giving up a solo blast in the top of the inning.
Decker provided the game-winning hit in the sixth inning when she lined a first-pitch over the right field fence for a walk-off grand slam.
Oregon’s Alyssa Gillespie added a one-out solo homerun in the fourth for the 4-1 lead.
The sixth inning is where the Ducks broke the game open with five runs for the mercy-ruled win.
Game 2: Oregon 3 – Utah Valley 0: Karissa Hovinga and Jasmine Smithson-Willett combined for a complete game shutout to lead Oregon to a 3-0 victory.
Hovinga got the start and threw 5.0 innings, giving up five hits and recording four strikeouts to improve to 7-1 on the season. Smithson-Willett threw the final two innings, giving up one hit to pick up her first save the season.
Oregon’s offensive scoring started when Janelle Lindvall hit a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game. Glasco doubled later in the inning to score Janie Takeda for the early 2-0.
Oregon got its final run of the game when Lindvall lined a ball off the Utah Valley pitcher to score Lilley in the third inning.
The Ducks return to action on Friday when they open a three-game series against No. 18 Washington. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
