Oregon lacrosse traveled across the country to take on Long Island University Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, dominating the Blackbirds in the second half for a 19-8 victory.
The Ducks (8-2, 1-1 MPSF) were led by an impressive showing from redshirt senior Hayley Milner. Milner finished with a career-high six goals on eight shots.
LIU Brooklyn (3-5) jumped out to an early lead in the first half in what was a sloppy start to the game. Both teams struggled to control the ball, allowing the opposition solid looks at the net.
Though outshot by Oregon in the first half, Brooklyn had a better percentage of shots on goal, allowing them to enter halftime with an 8-7 lead.
Everything changed in the second half as the Ducks took over the match. They outshot the Blackbirds 23-1, while only turning it over four times.
For the game, 10 different players scored goals for Oregon. To go along with Milner’s strong performance, Carly O’Connell (three goals, two assists), Holly Johnson (two goals) and Cambi Cukar (one goal, two assists) all contributed to the win.
For Brooklyn, sophomore Jenn Peters led the way, scoring four goals of her own and adding two assists.
The win is the second in a row for the Ducks after they were able to down Fresno State 14-7 earlier in the week.
The next game on the schedule will be a tough matchup for the Ducks, as they are set to take on No. 12 Stony Brook this Saturday. The match begins at 9 a.m.
