American filmmakers are notorious for remaking films from years ago that were the best of their time.
Depending on the director, script rewrite and the cast, these films are a total hit or miss with the box office, fans and critics.
Soon, studios in Hollywood will be releasing a monumentally high amount of popular remakes that have its individual fan bases buzzing. From both the ’80s and ’90s, these reboots that shaped many of our childhood Saturday mornings cannot go unnoticed.
Being released in different months to keep us on our toes, here are the five that you will debatably attend the midnight showing of.
Cinderella: Recently released and already making a killing at the box office, Disney’s live-action Cinderella managed to combine the perfect amount of cliché with pure sweetness that warmed our hearts. Plus, if you see this film in theaters, you’ll be treated to the “Frozen Fever” animated short you’ll wish was the length of an entire film. Win win.
Jurassic World: After 22 years, one of the most anticipated films of this upcoming summer, Jurassic World makes its debut, making even the non-dinosaur or sci-fi fans want to line up outside the theater. Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help) partake in a new attraction in hopes of increasing its visitors to the Jurassic World theme park and all goes well, until it backfires wildly. Check it out on June 12.
Vacation: What may have been the first R-rated movie for many of us, brings back the National Lampoons Vacation series with not only cameos from the original leads, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, but multiple new faces as well. Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Leslie Mann (This Is 40) play the very grown up Griswold children, Rusty and Audrey who take their own families on a road trip to the Walley World theme park that turns this vacation into one hellish ride. Bound to be one you and your parents won’t want to miss on Oct. 9.
Ghostbusters: One of the most original remakes we’ve seen in a while brings back Ghostbusters, and this time with an all-female cast. Paul Feig, the director of Bridesmaids revives this classic with some of our favorite female comedians: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are just to name a few. The film is set for a 2016 release, practically already making the box office its throne, next summer. As if we couldn’t be more excited, according to ABC News, there may be a second Ghostbusters reboot in 2017 with an all-male cast. Could another battle of the sexes be upon us? Time will tell.
Goosebumps: Get excited, children of the ’90s. Sony will be releasing its reboot of R.L. Stine’s ghost and horror stories for children — made into film, this summer. Who better could it star than Jack Black as Stine, who protects the world from monsters by keeping them locked away in his books. But when they are accidently released from their manuscripts, it’s up to Stine and his niece, played by Odeya Rush (The Giver), to get them back to where they belong. This will be an easy escape from the heat of summer, as it will be released on Aug. 7.
