Oregon track and field sent a small group of athletes just up the road to take part in a quick trip to the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis Friday evening. The contingent of Ducks included athletes from distance, hurdles, jumps and throws.
Ryan Hunter-Simms had a strong day with a pair of personal bests. The junior won the discus (179-10.25), out throwing the second place finisher by five meters. Hunter-Simms also competed in the shot put. He threw a personal best of 60-0.50 — the first time he has ever passed the 60-foot mark. He is also the first Duck to break 60-feet since Dusty Carlson did so in 1996.
Trevor Ferguson won the men’s 110 hurdles, setting an OSU High Performance meet record in 14.33. On the women’s side Sasha Wallace finished second in the 100 hurdles (13.78).
Ben Thiel continued the strong hurdling with a victory in the 400 hurdles in 53.95.
Redshirt Junior Waverly Neer made her Duck debut in the women’s 5000, after transferring from Columbia. She won the event in 16:12.64. Sophomore Jackson Darland won the men’s steeplechase with a meet record and personal best of 9:03.96.
Oregon sophomore Skylar Evans claimed her first event win of her career in the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:10.09.
