That inevitable moment when you finish the latest episode of your favorite female-led comedy series — like Orange Is The New Black, of course — you’re left asking yourself, now what?
Comedic TV series with females as its leads have become increasingly popular over the last few years. The public, critics and even award shows have begun to recognized them.
Some of the most popular to date include Girls, The Mindy Project and Orange Is The New Black, but who’s the next big kid on the block? Whether it be on Netflix, HBO GO or just your average cable channel, here are a few newbies you may not have given a chance yet, but will not want to pass up laughing over.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: The latest buzz has come from Netflix’s newest original series, brought to you by 30 Rock’s co-creators, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. A single camera follows Kimmy, played by Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids) as she adjusts to her new life in New York City after being rescued from a doomsday cult in Indiana. Random and undeniably hilarious makes this white-hot Netflix series top all the charts.
Broad City: Most likely your roommate’s favorite show, Broad City pushes all of the boundaries of comedy in the best way possible. Uniquely, its stars, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, are also on the writing staff for the show as an overall highly talented group of writers tie the show together in a gut-busting laughter package. Found on HBO GO, the show is set in New York City as two women’s daily lives are followed, presenting their mundane day-to-day activities, which disturbing yet wildly hilarious at the same time.
Inside Amy Schumer: With its third season debuting on April 21, Inside Amy Schumer gives you plenty of time to catch up on its past two wildly popular seasons before diving into the third. Starring comedian of upcoming film, Trainwreck, Inside Amy Schumer combines the hilarity of Amy’s standup and with her interviewing skills — both people on the street and special guests. The series can conveniently be found on Hulu Plus and Comedy Central.
Don’t Trust The B— in Apt 23: Although this show is a tad older than the others and no longer on the air, its great but short run is one not to pass up when you’re looking for something to do on a Saturday afternoon. Two quick seasons plunge you into the lives of Chloe and June whose morals couldn’t be more polar opposite. Their farcical relationship may remind some of you about yourself and your roommate, something everyone can enjoy making fun of.
