Whether on the football field, in the blood donation truck or on the stage, the civil war between the Ducks and Beavers never stops. This weekend the rivalry is between six a cappella groups.
Oregon’s Divisi, On the Rocks and Mind the Gap will take on Oregon State’s Divine, Outspoken and Powerchord. On the Rocks and Mind the Gap are fresh off the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella semifinals.
University of Oregon senior Ethan Alvarez has been in On The Rocks for about four year now and says the competition, which they try to do every year, is actually more of a “friendly showcase.”
Like the civil war games, the venue switches back and forth between campuses. This year it will be in Eugene. In the past, it was only the male a cappella groups who participated. However, all six co-ed groups will join in this weekend. They will also have an MC.
“A lot of us know some of the guys and girls in the other groups,” Alvarez said. “It’s fun because it’s really the only time we get to see them and hang out before and after the show, and see what they’ve been up to musically.”
The competition will be held at Beall Hall on April 4 at 7:30 p.m.. Admission for UO students is $8 with ID.
