Oregon traveled to Denver this Friday for its second to last season game, and despite three goals each from Senior Casey Brogan and Junior Carly O’ Connell, the Ducks fell 15-9.
Denver was first to score just over a minute into the game, but O’Connell responded with a goal of her own three minutes later. Next, midfielder Brogan scored on a free position shot for the Ducks. Oregon took its first lead of the game after back and forth play when Oregon’s Hayley Milner scored a free position shot with 16:20 to play, bringing the score to 4-3.
At the half the Ducks lead 6-4 after two more goals from Brogan, one on an assist from Cambi Cukar and the other on a free position shot.
After halftime, Denver came back with five goals unanswered until Cukar responded with an unassisted goal with 17:30 to play in the game. With just under seven minutes left, the Ducks trailed by just two points 11-9. Oregon was unable to score another goal in the half, while Denver put four more on the board. Two of Denver’s final points came from their star of the game Nicole Martindale, who scored five total goals for the Pioneers in this game, for a final score of 15-9.
Oregon racked up a total of four foul violations in the game, with two from both Bella Pyne and Jackie Moccia. All four of Oregon’t fouls came in the second half.
Despite the loss today, O’Connell made the Oregon record books with her performance.She secured the No. 10 position on the all-time goals record sheet with 87 total goals scored for the Ducks.
The loss dropped Oregon’s record to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in MPSF play.
The Ducks will play their last game of the regular season on Sunday against Colorado at Boulder.
