The Portland Trail Blazers came to campus Thursday afternoon as part of their Rip City Campus Tour in Oregon before next weeks playoff game against the Memphis Grizzle.
The Blazers partners with Toyota and Rip City Radio for their tour. They went to Portland State University and Oregon State University in the morning before arriving at UO.
Free tickets, t-shirts and water bottles were given out at the event through contests such as: shooting hoops, “Best dressed fan” and “Loudest fan.”
“It’s great to see students here come out and support the team,” Senior Director of Marketing for the Blazers, Ryan Flaherty said. “We want to get outside Portland and bring the Rip City spirit to some of the biggest universities in Oregon.”
The rally attracted many die-hard fans in the form of UO students, as well as residents in the community.
UO student Mckenzie Fletcher, a Portland native, has been fan of the Trail Blazers way before she came to UO.
“It’s nice to see black and red on campus,” she said. “I just wish they had more stuff to do, so everyone didn’t have to wait in line for so long.”
Eugene resident Kevin Kenan won a pair of tickets, after being voted as “Best dressed fan.”
“I’m super excited for the playoff,” Kenan said. “I’ve been rooting for them since I was a kid.”
