Last night was MTV’s annual Movie Awards, with appearances by Kevin Hart, Jennifer Lopez, Channing Tatum, Robert Downey Jr., and more.
The evening was filled with jokes, cartoon cats and even a few musical performances as the large Los Angeles audience highlighted the past year’s best films.
Up and coming comedian, Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) hosted a memorable show as she went outside the box of poking fun at celebrities but instead successfully placed herself as characters in every “Movie Of The Year” nominee throughout different points of the show.
Many were not too fond of her excessive dirty jokes throughout, but then remembered it was MTV and there are no rules.
The MTV Movie Awards is unique in itself, with nominees ranging from previous Oscar leads to fan favorite comedies and dramas.
Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars presented unusual categories, for example, “Best Kiss,” “Best Scared As Sh*t” and “Best Shirtless Performance” were among a few of the many popular awards handed out to actors who starred in films in 2014.
“This is the only awards show where the people who nominate and vote for the winners are the same ones who have kept “Teen Mom” and “Catfish” on the air,” stated Schumer.
This may have been proven true as a random array of winners walked away with golden popcorn awards. It was interesting that the winners were present in the audience, but the runner-ups were not, proving the other point of why this B-Grade show is clearly for cheap entertainment.
We saw The Fault In Our Stars and Divergent actress, Shailene Woodley almost one too many times, as she walked away with three awards; “Best Kiss,” “Trailblazer Award” and “Movie of the Year” had her on the stage or panned by the camera multiple times on the floor.
Like the special “Trailblazer Award,” two others were recognized for their accomplishments; Robert Downey Jr. (“Generation Award”) and Kevin Hart (“Comedic Genius Award”) both delivered humbling speeches, which the audience expected nothing less from the two acclaimed actors.
Zac Efron wouldn’t have made his appearance memorable if it didn’t include him talking with his shirt off so we could stare at his spray-tanned abs for a minute and a half, obviously.
A crowd favorite, “Best Kiss” was a bit of a let down this year, as The Fault In Our Stars actress Shailene Woodley had to accept the award by herself in the absence of Ansel Elgort, as it is a tradition to “reenact” the kiss for the live-audience.
She also made a joke about it feeling like “kissing your brother”…talk about a downer.
But we did get to see Channing Tatum shake his behind later for the cameras as a little tease for the upcoming Magic Mike XXL movie, so that’ll do for an above-average substitute.
remember when Zac Efron took off his shirt at the #MTVMovieAwards? … that was nice.
