Hurricane Sandy likely to hit U.S.
Forecasters said there is a 90 percent chance that Hurricane Sandy will make landfall in the East Coast sometime Monday or Tuesday, reported The New York Times.
The hurricane may make landfall between Chesapeake Bay to southern New England, bringing 10 inches of rain in the area. Forecasters predict the hurricane will mostly impact Delaware.
New York City nanny found with slayed children
Central Park resident YoSelyn Ortega, 50, is suspected of killing two children of a Manhattan couple, reported The New York Times.
The couple, Kevin and Marina Krim, hired Ortega as their nanny after she was referred to them by another family. The mother found Ortega stabbing herself with a knife while the two dead children were in the bathtub.
Ortega is in a coma, so police have not interviewed or charged her.
Senator Reid hospitalized
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, R-NV, was taken to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas after a rear-end car accident around 1:10 p.m. Friday on Interstate 15 in the city, reported FOX5.
A UMC official said that Reid is in good condition after the crash, which involved two Metro police vehicles, two Capital Police vehicles and two civilian vehicles.
Berlusconi sentenced|
Former Prime Minister of Italy, Slivio Berlusconi, was sentenced to four years in prison for tax fraud, reported The New York Times.
Due to Italy’s law to reduce overcrowded prisons, Berlusconi’s sentence will be reduced to one year.
He is also on trial for an affair with an underage prostitute, to which he denied.
Congolese doctor attacked
Dr. Denis Mukwege, a human rights activist and a gynecologist from Democratic Republic of Congo, survived an attack on Thursday when five unidentified gunmen infiltrated his home, reported The New York Times.
The gunmen forced his daughters to the ground and killed his security guard. The gunmen deployed all their ammunition at Mukwege, who made it out unharmed. The gunmen escaped with his car.
