A University student was cited for disorderly conduct by Eugene Police Department officers after fighting with a man outside of Taylor’s Bar and Grill early Friday morning, according to EPD Public Information Director Melinda Kletzok.
Luis M. Nava, 23, allegedly started a fight with a man who was asking for cigarettes outside of Taylor’s, Kletzok said. She also said Nava and his friends allegedly pushed the man up against a car and hit him repeatedly. The man tried to run but Nava chased after him, Kletzok said, and two people who tried to stop the fight told officers that Nava began fighting with them, too.
Nava, however, told a different story.
He said he and his friends were leaving Taylor’s when they were jumped by a group of males outside the bar. Nava said one of the males started hitting his friend, so he jumped in and began fighting with the group.
Nava said he and his friends were just on their way home and were not looking for a fight.
“I was stressed out all week for my finance and marketing midterms, and then I try to relax, go out, and have fun, and I get arrested,” he said.
EPD officers took Nava to the Lane County Jail where he was held over night on probable cause for disorderly conduct, Kletzok said.
