The Duck women and men’s tennis teams played at separate tournaments over the weekend.
At Palo Alto, Calif., seniors Carmen Seremeta and Ana Cecilia Olivos won their respective consolation matches Saturday at the ITA Northwest Championships, hosted by Stanford. Seremeta beat Fresno State’s Dana Beatty 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Olivos dispatched Sacramento State’s Milica Zivanovic 6-2, 6-1.
Oregon redshirt freshman Pavlina Smatova lost her match in two sets to Cal Poly’s Jocelyn Davis. The Ducks will next play in the Seminole Classic on Oct. 31 in Tallahassee, Fla.
The men’s team saw junior Marcos Verdasco win in the singles and doubles brackets at the Wilson/ITA Northern Cal Championships in Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday.
On Sunday, Verdasco beat Alex Rosinski of Washington State 6-3, 6-1 to make the final 16 in singles, but withdrew due to injury against Fresno State’s Rudolf Siwy and did not advance.
He also advanced with freshman Ayrton Wibowo in doubles by beating Cal’s Sky Lovill and Tommie Murphy, then a team from the University of San Francisco. The team then dropped its match to a University of Washington pair, 8-1.
Sophomore Duncan McDonald-Korth and freshman Sho Higuchi beat a Saint Mary’s pair to advance to the round of 32 in the afternoon before losing to Cal 8-2.
