LeGarrette Blount leads all Oregon running backs with 592 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year. He sealed Saturday’s win against UCLA with a 69-yard touchdown run with fewer than three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Oregon Daily Emerald: You have the nickname “Blount Force Trauma.” Do you have any other nickname for yourself?
LeGarrette Blount: Nah, I think I’ll stick with that one. First time I ever heard it was when I got here. In the football office they made a poster with “Blount Force Trauma,” and that just stuck with me until now.
ODE: The defense is the “D-Boyz” but what are the running backs called?
LG: We don’t have a name. I don’t know what we are, where’s Jeremiah (Johnson, the most vocal running back)? We’re just playmakers. We come through when they need us.
ODE: Have you ever thought about approaching the track team for hurdling? (Blount has made several highlights by jumping over defenders this season.)
LG: Nah, I thought about joining the UO track team to do some 100 meter dash and 200 just to do a little racing, just so I can get faster for next year. Trying to get my speed up for next year because I’m a little bit of a
bigger guy.
ODE: OK, fill in the blank. Eugene is ______.
LG: Nice, I like it here. I would say Eugene is … nice. It feels like home.
ODE: What do you miss about Florida?
LG: Food. Weather. Beaches. My family. That’s about all I miss. Besides that, this right here is like a second home for me.
ODE: What’s your favorite class you’re taking?
LG: American Sign Language.
ODE: Do you use it much?
LG: We use it all the time. Me and Terrell Turner kind of sign at each other all the time. It’s kind of a study method but we also do it for fun too. Nobody knows what we’re talking about.
ODE: Do you ever put up trash talk in ASL?
LG: The only sign language I know that they probably understand is some weird stuff from “Scarface.” They probably wouldn’t know what I’m talking about, like “he’s stupid.”
ODE: What’s your favorite movie?
LG: “300,” and I’d say that’s probably my most favorite. “Iron Man.”
ODE: Favorite running back all-time?
LG: All-time, Walter Payton. I think I have that kind of mentality, but for some odd reason nobody wants to get in my way.
