Beginning today, students in need of a late-night cramming session can take refuge in the Knight Library 24 hours a day during the school week. The 24-hour schedule starts at 11 a.m. on Sundays and runs through 7 p.m. on Fridays for the 2008-09 academic year only.
The library will keep normal hours on Saturdays, which are from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The pilot program, which is intended to determine whether or not students will utilize a 24-hour library, was funded with over-realized funds from the ASUO from spring term of 2008. It cost $54,000, most of which was used to pay for security and custodial stipends.

“Bringing 24-hour library service to campus is reflective of our mission to adapt to the evolving lifestyle of the student body,” ASUO President Sam Dotters-Katz said.
The library operates the same way it does during finals week. All library services end at their normal times, and the latest book check-out ends at midnight.
Student use of the library will be monitored with wireless counters that count every student who enters the library after midnight, in addition to head counts taken by security.
