The two students who were arrested with the use of Tasers at a downtown rally Friday pleaded not guilty to several charges, including resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, at the Eugene Municipal Court Monday morning.
Eugene police arrested Ian George Van Ornum, 18, and Anthony Jameson Farley, 22, Friday afternoon and released them later that evening after their friends posted bail.
Also arrested at the rally and later released was David Alexander Owen, 50, whose plea had not yet been recorded Monday afternoon.
Police arrested Van Ornum, one of the coordinators of the rally, after he reportedly blocked traffic and resisted police intervention. Police reports say that after he was handcuffed and held on the ground, he still resisted. Police stunned him with a Taser twice before he stopped moving.
Farley and Owen were arrested half an hour later when police returned and they reportedly protested Van Ornum’s arrest. Reports indicated that Owen “ran at the officers in an attempt to interfere with the arrest” and Farley “swung his fists at the officers,” but several witnesses disputed police accounts of the incident.
Farley and Van Ornum have declined to comment until they have spoken with their lawyers.
No trial dates have been set for any of the three offenders.
