Colorado junior Jennifer Barringer has established herself as the favorite to win this event after her sizzling solo performance to win the NCAA Championships two weeks ago. Her time of 9:29.20 was a collegiate record and the second-best performance ever by an American.
American record holder Lisa Galaviz, formerly of Arizona State, set her record last year in Belgium, but hasn’t run faster than 9:43 this year. Fourth at the U.S. Championships last year, Galaviz is still sure to be right in the mix with Barringer.
The second- and third-fastest times of 2008 belongs to Anna Willard, the 2007 U.S. runner-up, and Lindsey Anderson, the third-place finisher.
Delilah DiCrescenzo, the inspiration for the Plain White T’s hit “Hey There, Delilah,” has turned herself into a serious competitor for a spot on the Olympic team.
