The Cultural Forum’s music program will showcase Lake Trout and Benzos today at the WOW Hall.
Lake Trout, the Baltimore-based five-person band known for blending complex rock and electronic arrangements, is promoting its second full-length album “Not Them You,” released by Rx Records in September.
“Lake Trout relies a lot on improvisational material at their shows,” said music coordinator Mike Zarkesh. “The shows are song-focused but everything else is improvised. They are like an indie, rock, jam band.”
The New York band Benzos is touring to promote its recently-released debut full-length album “Morning Stanzas.” The album, recorded over a three-week period and released on the indie label Stinky Records, has achieved respectable success for the four-piece band. The conservatory-trained musicians intricately weave rock, underground dance and electronica to produce highly danceable music that transcends traditional genres. Benzos had been considering booking shows on the West Coast for a while and Zarkesh decided to take a risk and talk to the band about making a stop in Eugene.
“They haven’t broken onto the West Coast scene yet, and this seemed like a good opportunity to bring something different to Eugene,” said Zarkesh.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 advance for University students (available at the University ticket office), $12 public (available at WOW Hall) and $13 at the door.
