ATTORNEY GENERAL
Hardy Myers
Democrat incumbent Hardy Myers was holding onto his position as Attorney General, earning 49 percent of the vote as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. He beat out two other candidates in the election. During the campaign, Myers focused on his achievements in office, specifically his work to assist victims of domestic violence. If reelected, Myers pledged to protect basic rights and to defend those rights against criminal activity.
SECRETARY OF STATE
Bill Bradbury
Democrat incumbent Bill Bradbury appeared to defeat three other challengers in the race for Secretary of State with 49 percent of the vote as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Bradbury introduced the vote-by-mail system to Oregon, still the only state to use the system. He ran on a platform to protect Oregon’s natural heritage and to ensure that the state’s higher education systems receive the highest amount of funding available. Bradbury has also pledged to ensure Oregon receives the highest value for timber products.
U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, DISTRICT 4
Peter DeFazio
Democrat U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio was elected to his eighth consecutive term of office with a resounding 68 percent of the vote. DeFazio has pointed to his recent success in designating the Steens Mountains area in Southwest Oregon a national monument and sustaining education funding as reasons why voters should reelect him. If elected, DeFazio promised to maintain his activity on environmental and education issues and work to invest more federal funding into transportation and less in nuclear weapons.
STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, DISTRICT 40
Phil Barnhart
Democrat Phil Barnhart was winning the District 40 seat with 70 percent of the vote as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Barnhart’s platform revolved around increasing funding for education and making the Oregon Health Plan available to students. Barnhart said he wants to begin discussion on how Oregon’s money could be better spent. Barnhart said he would improve public safety by supporting the recently passed Measure 5 .
STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, DISTRICT 41
Viki Walker
Vicki L. Walker was winning the District 41 seat with 51 percent as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Walker’s platform focused on controlling the use of pesticides, prioritizing youth suicide prevention, increasing funding for secondary and higher education, and stopping travel agencies from deceiving high school and college students. Walker is the incumbent for the 41st District Seat, and served on Transportation, Trade and Economic Development, and Legislative committees. Walker said she worked well with both Republicans and Democrats.
STATE TREASURER
Randall Edwards
Democrat Randall Edwards was winning the State Treasurer office with 50 percent of the vote as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The former state representative from the Portland area pointed to his previous experience working with the Oregon State Treasury as an advisor and experience in the private sector as reasons why voters should support him.
