Another Civil War, another victory for Oregon.
The No. 6 Oregon Ducks run-ruled the Oregon State Beavers 8-0 in the first Civil War played at Jane Sanders Stadium on Friday. The Ducks won the first game of a series since defeating Portland State on April 4. The win also marks the 13th straight victory over Oregon State.
The game wrapped up quickly. Oregon (39-6, 12-6 Pac-12) loaded the bases in the fifth inning already in holding a 4-0 lead before Mia Camuso stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam. The game ended after just five innings.
“That was pretty awesome,” Camuso said about her second home run of the season and first grand slam of her career.

Despite the explosive ending, the game started slowly for Oregon. Only three Ducks reached base after three innings of play.
The runs started flowing in the fourth inning when Gwen Svekis hit a leadoff home run. Nikki Udria singled during the next at bat, extending her on-base streak to 39 games. Udria stole second and advanced to third on a Camuso single. With runners on the corners, Shannon Rhodes laid down a well-placed sacrifice bunt to drive in Udria. Then, with runners on first and second, Madi Bishop doubled to right center, driving in both runners and giving Oregon a 4-0 lead.

“All of a sudden the flood gates opened,” Oregon head coach Mike White said.
The offensive outburst was something Oregon needed. Throughout the last three series, all of which have been loses, the Ducks’ offense has sputtered. It felt like they were going to again as Oregon State (24-20, 6-10 Pac-12) pitcher Taylor Cotton (10-6) was holding them in check.
“We were swinging at ones out the zone and taking good ones. That’s a recipe for disaster,” White said. “I was a little frustrated to start the game.”
While Cotton was pitching well, Oregon’s Megan Kleist was better. Kleist (15-3) got the win with her three-hit, five-strikeout and zero-walk performance and improved on her 23.9-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Oregon’s domination of Oregon State is nothing new. During the now 13-game win streak in the Civil War, the Ducks have outscored the Beavers 128-24. Friday was the ninth time the Beavers have been run-ruled and the seventh time they have been shutout in those 13 games.
Winning the first game of the Civil War gives Oregon the start to the series it needed. The Ducks have lost three straight series, all against top-15 teams. They hope this Civil War series will end that streak.
“First things first we have to come back tomorrow and play against a very good team,” White said.
Oregon will face Oregon State for game two on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jane Sanders Stadium.
