On Wednesday, March 7, the UO will hold the first of four workshops to train students and faculty on the event of an active shooter on campus.
The training, called Active Threat Preparedness Training, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the EMU Crater Lake rooms. The event is open to all students and employees but requires registration for employees. Student space is on first-come, first-serve.
The UO is planning trainings for spring term that will be more student focus, according to the UO events website.
The description for the event reads “In an incident of mass violence like a school shooting, knowing what to do could save your life, and lives around you. Learn from campus experts on how to prepare for the worst.”
The training comes just three weeks after 17 people were killed in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.
