In its final game of the 30th Louisiana Classic, Oregon softball delivered a beatdown of Central Arkansas for the second time in two days with a final score of 19-3 on Sunday.
The No. 6 Ducks tried out some of their new players in the blowout, which powered Oregon to an 8-3 record on the season.
Central Arkansas earned the first point of the game in the first inning, but Oregon struck back in the top of the second with two runs on two hits to put the Ducks up 2-1.
In the third, Koral Costa hit a home run and Jenna Lilley followed closely behind to advance the Ducks’ lead to 5-1.
Oregon’s scoring run continued through the inning and into the fourth with home runs from all over the roster. By the end of the day, 11 Ducks had recorded hits.
By the bottom of the third inning, Oregon led 13-3, and in the fourth the Ducks continued to dominate on offense with six more runs.
Going into the bottom of the fourth, Oregon had taken the game 19-3, thanks in part to a two-run home run from senior Stevie Jo Knapp.
Oregon took the 19-3 victory, its biggest win of the season so far. The win followed an 8-0 victory over Central Arkansas the previous day.
In today’s game, freshman Megan Kleist made her mark for the Ducks on defense when the pitcher struck out four batters over three innings. Other newbies added to the victory, including April Utecht, who hit a three-run homer for the Ducks in the fourth inning.
Next up, the Ducks head to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, CA. Play in the Classic begins Friday when the Ducks take on Nebraska and Cal State Northridge, followed by Fresno State, Missouri and Oklahoma State over the next two days.
Live stats are available for the entirety of the tournament, and Friday’s first game for the Ducks will begin at 10 a.m.
