Two Ducks caught the eye of the Pac-12 this week.
Oregon softball’s Koral Costa earned the conference’s player of the week award, while Duck freshman Gwen Svekis was named freshman of the week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Costa powered the Ducks to a three-game sweep over rival Oregon State this weekend, hitting 5-of-8 at the plate, recording five runs, six RBIs and two homers. She also tallied two walks and a double against the Beavers.
Through the first weekend of Pac-12 play, Costa led the Ducks with seven home runs while hitting a blistering .361 with a slugging percentage of .787 on the year.
Svekis, the freshman from Davie, Florida, set an Oregon record against the Beavers during Sunday’s first game where the Ducks broke the school record for scoring in a 23-12 run-rule win. Svekis started with a three-run home run, followed up by a two-run triple and finished with a grand slam.
Her nine RBIs set the Oregon single-game school record. The previous mark was seven.
Costa and Svekis’ selections are their first-career weekly honors. It’s the third time of six selections a Duck has been named player of the week.
The Ducks will head to Salt Lake City this weekend for a three-game series starting Mar. 21.
