Oregon track and field scored two of the nation’s premiere running talents this weekend. The top-rated distance runner and California state cross country champion both signed national letters of intent to join the program in 2017.
Drew Hunter, who according to the Saucony Flo50 cross country rankings is No. 1 in the country, signed first Thursday night, The Oregonian reported. Following his announcement Austin Tamagno declared his decision to also join the Ducks for next year one day later, SI.com reported.

Hunter, out of Loudon Valley High School in Virginia, is a three-time cross country state champion, has a mile time of 4:02 and the leading prep-time of 14:20.8 in cross country.
Tamagno holds top times of 3:46.94 for the 1500 and 4:06.26 for the mile. As a junior he finished fifth at last year’s Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships. Future teammate Hunter placed one spot ahead of him.
The two will both compete alongside one another at this year’s Foot Locker race, where they will both look to improve their placing. The race will be held in San Diego on December 12.
